Locked worked alongside the NS&IM to produce these two spoken word creative performance videos with local creatives Nasima Bee and the prolific SAF-S2E to ‘turn up the volume’ on underrepresented stories in the museum collections. To emphasise the history and context of the poems we filmed performances in the Textiles Gallery at the NS&IM, a perfect backdrop for the subject matter with masses of textile machinery and equipment on display throughout the background.
Locked worked closely with the museum during the planning stages of this production and when filming on location to ensure there was no disruption to daily services. This meant we had a small time window of 3hrs to do the filming as the Museum has rigid security measures locking all doors by 7pm. However, with ample planning beforehand and by using a small crew we were able to load in, set up and record both performances with multiple run throughs/takes in under 3hrs.
Our Co-founder Jamie was the Director of Photography and worked with IMA-HOME’s internal videographer and the lighting team on set to get a bright yet soft and even look but still retain contrast on our subjects. We used two Aputure 1200d lighting through a 2.4m x 2.4m diffusion frame to flood the set with bright yet soft light achieving a daylight aesthetic.
